Dementia Care Helper

Practical, calm tips for families supporting someone with memory loss or dementia. You're not alone. 💚

If you're caring for someone with memory loss or dementia, you're not alone. These tips are practical, calm, and can be used offline. 💚

  • Keep walkways clear and remove loose mats to lower fall risk.
  • Use a small night light in the hallway and bathroom.
  • Put simple labels like “Toilet” or “Bedroom” on doors.
  • Keep keys / glasses / phone in the same visible spot every day.
  • Play familiar music during stressful times (late afternoon can be harder for some people).
  • Avoid arguing about facts. Comfort first, correct later.

If safety at home is urgent (they wander, leave stove on, or fall), call the GP and tell them 'we’re struggling to keep them safe at home.'

You’re Doing Better Than You Think

If you’re keeping someone safe, fed, and emotionally reassured — even if the house is a mess and you’re exhausted — you are doing real care. Please also look after yourself.
