How Fees Work Under the New System
From 2026, costs for government-funded home care are simpler. Most people will pay:
- A Basic Daily Fee, set by the government (currently estimated at $13.33/day).
- A Service Contribution, which is income-tested. Full pensioners usually pay $0. Others may contribute a percentage of their care costs, up to an annual cap.
This does not cover residential aged care fees (like accommodation bonds), which have a different structure.
